Milestones - newborn 8 weeks old

Congratulations and welcome to the lovely world of the 2 month old baby!

8 week old milestones

This week your baby may begin to do the following:
  • Tracks moving objects or people - vision is still blurry.
  • Studies faces and may try to mimic facial expressions - poke your tongue out at your baby and see what happens.
  • Coos.
  • Holds head up when lying on tummy.
  • Still smiles reflexively but may also smile in response to your smile.
  • Hold onto a rattle for a couple of seconds if you put it in her hand.
  • May start developing a predictable routine with eating and sleeping.
  • Pays close attention to voices.
  • Head wobbles if held in a sitting position.
  • Squirms when anticipating feeding.
While the development of most infant skills generally appear at certain ages, there is wide variation in normal.  The skills listed above are estimates to help you monitor and enjoy your baby’s development.
