Activities to do with your 5 month old
Spending time with your 5 month old is a joy! Here are some ideas and activities.
- Give your baby plenty of tummy time to develop muscles and to practice rolling from front to back.
- Baby loves to squeeze toys that make noise.
- Place interesting objects and toys near the car seat or when your baby is lying on his back to encourage kicking. This is an excellent way for your baby to build leg muscles.
- Try to place your baby on his side while lying down to encourage rolling onto back or tummy.
- Read books to your baby and play music often to foster language development.
- Provide plenty of toys small enough to fit in your baby's hands so she can practice passing them from one hand to the other.
- Mirror Peek-a-boo - Hold your baby so they she can see in a wall mirror, move to the side, then quickly come back to the mirror saying "Peek-a-boo". Your baby will delight in mommy and baby, disappearing and appearing again.
- Put your baby on your lap facing you and help your baby stand by holding him under the armpits. His knees will be stiff at first, but with practice he will learn to bounce himself up and down by bending his knees.
